Theology Crash Course

We'll start back up in early 2018

From time to time, we hold the Theology Crash Course: brief introductions to Christian topics. This is adult faith formation in a casual format. Everyone is welcome.

Theology Crash Course is an overview of Christian beliefs and practices. This is designed for:
  • Newcomers to Trinity or the Episcopal Church
  • People preparing for Confirmation or Baptism
  • Seekers and doubters and skeptics who are curious about how Christianity works
  • Active Christians who want to deepen their knowledge and understanding

This is a good pre-cursor for those thinking about Education for Ministry, which is much more in-depth.

Topics we'll cover:
  • What is theology about?
  • How do we know anything in theology?
  • Scripture, but also "Tradition" and "Reason"
  • Core theology: 1 in 3 and 3 in 1
  • The good creation
  • Sin and evil
  • Jesus Christ: Incarnation, Passion, Death, Resurrection
  • Jesus Christ part 2: untangling Chalcedon, and top 5 heresies
  • The Holy Spirit, the life of prayer, conversion, and commitment
  • The Church: the Body of Christ (including the communion of saints, catholic (Anglican) hierarchies and orders, and sacraments)
  • End of the Line: the Four Last Things
  • The Prayer Book as an ascetical system
  • Baptism: Entry to the life of grace
  • Eucharist: The center of the community's life
  • Discipleship: Christian duties, expectations, gifts, and privileges.
  • The Church in plurality: understanding multiple churches, denominations, religions, and philosophies
