LOAVES & FISHES
All are welcome to serve...or be served
For most of us it is difficult to imagine what it is like to go to bed hungry. Yet, here in Oshkosh, there are people of all ages and walks of life - families with children, the isolated and elderly - in need of a square meal and a gesture of care and compassion.
In response to these local needs, Deacon Nancy Behm and members of the Youth Group at Trinity Episcopal Church began the mission of Loaves & Fishes to reach out to the poor and hungry in our community. For the past five years, the doors to Trinity’s Parish Hall (on the corner of Division and High Streets) have opened on the first and third (and sometimes fifth when we are helped by Our Savior Lutheran Church) Saturdays of every month so that Trinity’s parishioners - now volunteers of all ages - may provide a nourishing, hot meal to our neighbors in need.
The Loaves & Fishes Story
Loaves and Fishes at Trinity Episcopal Church is an ecumenical faith mission devoted to feeding the hungry in body, mind and spirit.
In many ways, the Loaves & Fishes program is one of Trinity’s best examples of Christian community. The volunteers who prepare and serve the meals include grandmothers, local public servants, teenagers, and adults who join hands and hearts to help those who come to Trinity seeking compassion and care. All are welcome ~ either to serve or be served.
“Then I heard the voice
of the Lord saying,
‘Whom shall I send?
And who will go for us?’ And I said,
‘Here am I. Send me!’”
Isaiah 6:8
